At Yahamaha Outboards, we stand by the quality and reliability of every outboard motor we sell. Our warranty policy is designed to give you peace of mind whether you purchase a brand-new engine or a certified pre-owned model.
1. New Outboard Motors Warranty
All brand-new Yamaha and Suzuki outboard motors sold through Yahamaha Outboards are covered exclusively by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Warranty.
-
Coverage: This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship from the manufacturer for a specified period ( typically 3 to 5 years).
-
Terms: The length and specific terms of coverage are determined solely by the respective OEM (Yamaha Motor Corporation or Suzuki Motor Corporation).
-
Service: All new warranty service and claims must be submitted to and handled by any authorized dealer for that specific brand, according to the OEM’s policy.
-
Registration: We ensure all necessary registration documents are provided to you so you can register your new 4-stroke outboard motor and activate the full manufacturer warranty.
2. Used Outboard Motors Limited Warranty
Every used outboard motor for sale (including popular models like the used 2018 and used 2019 Yamaha and Suzuki engines) undergoes our rigorous multi-point inspection and testing process. To back this quality, we offer a standard limited warranty on all pre-owned engines unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Standard 30-Day Limited Warranty (Included)
-
Coverage: This warranty covers the integrity of the engine’s core internal components: the cylinder head, engine block, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, and main bearings. It covers catastrophic internal failure due to defects not disclosed at the time of sale.
-
Duration: 30 days from the date of delivery.
-
Exclusions: This warranty does not cover external accessories, electrical components (such as ECUs, wiring harnesses, or sensors), fuel system components, propellors, lower unit housing damage (unless caused by internal failure), or issues arising from improper installation, lack of maintenance, or overheating due to neglected cooling systems.
Optional Extended Warranty (Recommended)
Customers purchasing a used outboard motor have the option to purchase an extended service contract for 6 months or 12 months.
-
Coverage: Extended coverage plans offer broader protection, including some electrical, fuel, and gearcase components (depending on the plan selected).
-
Availability: Available for most used 4-stroke outboard motors up to a certain age and HP rating.
-
Details: Specific pricing, coverage limits, and detailed terms will be provided at the time of purchase.
3. Making a Warranty Claim (Used Motors)
If you experience an issue with a used outboard motor covered under our limited warranty:
-
Immediate Notification: The buyer must notify Yahamaha Outboards in writing (via email) within the warranty period (within 30 days of delivery).
-
Diagnosis: The engine must be inspected by a certified, independent marine mechanic. The buyer is responsible for the initial diagnostic fee.
-
Documentation: The buyer must provide a detailed written report from the certified mechanic, including the mechanic’s findings, the cause of failure, and an estimate of repair costs.
-
Approval: Yahamaha Outboards will review the documentation and either approve the repair, request shipment of the motor back for our own inspection (at our cost if the claim is valid), or offer a pro-rated refund/replacement based on the circumstances.
Crucial Conditions and Exclusions for ALL Used Warranties:
-
Pre-existing Conditions: Any engine faults or issues clearly noted in the pre-sale diagnostic report (available to the buyer) are excluded from coverage.
-
Installation & Maintenance: Failure or damage resulting from improper installation (we recommend professional service), abuse, misuse, unauthorized modification, or lack of required maintenance (e.g., running with low oil, overheating, using incorrect fuel) will void the warranty.
-
Wear & Tear: Normal wear and tear, cosmetic issues, and minor adjustments are not covered.
-
Consequential Damages: Coverage is limited to the repair or replacement cost of the motor itself. Costs for towing, hauling, boat lift rental, loss of time, or other related damages are not covered.
-
Shipping Costs: The warranty only covers parts and/or labor, up to the motor’s purchase price. Shipping costs incurred in the event of a warranty claim (to and from the repair facility) are generally the responsibility of the buyer, unless agreed upon by Yahamaha Outboards.
